Priyamani and Trisha in ‘Fashion’ remake!

Looks like the remake fever has caught on the Tamil film industry and news about Simbu playing Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg's remake is creating maximum buzz. There is another interesting news in this wake and that is the critically acclaimed Madhur Bandarkar's Hindi film Fashion is to be remade in Tamil.

Nayanthara was initally approaced to play the role essayed by Priyanka Chopra but she is said to have refused and the offer seems to have fallen onto Trisha's lap. The supporting role that was played by Kangana Ranaut is to be reprised by Priya Mani. It is noteworthy that both Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut won the National Award for their respective roles in Fashion. We will keep you posted with the further developments.

Suriya-Thrilled working with RGV

Suriya, who is making his debut in Bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma's 'Raktha Charithra', has said that his focus would always be on south Indian films.

"If I get roles that excite me I will surely do movies in Bollywood. But my preference is always south and I will not stop doing films in Tamil," the actor has said.

Thrilled about working with RGV, he said, "I feel Raktha Charithra would be a perfect launch pad for me in Bollywood. He (RGV) is one of the finest filmmakers and it was my longtime desire to work with him."

Based on the life of slain Andhra Pradesh political leader Paritala Ravindra, the film also has Vivek Oberoi and Priyamani in pivotal roles. "Vivek is a comfortable colleague. I enjoyed working with him," said Suriya. The film is made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages.

Vidhya Balan upset with Priyamani

Sources in Bollywood say that Priyamani’s cousin and actress Vidya Balan feels that Priyamani should’ve opted for a full-fledged role for her Bollywood entry rather than a cameo.

The actress was reportedly upset that her cousin chose a role that was not even akin to a second heroine. However, with Priyamani being appreciated by the media for her role in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, Vidya should be satisfied that her sister made the right decision.

It is worth mentioning here that Vidya had starred in Mani Ratann’s Guru a couple of years ago, the film in which Aishwarya Rai played the female lead.

Priyamani as Jyothika

Priyamani has bagged the offer to star in the Kannada remake of the popular film Kushi. Starring in the male lead role will be Ganesh. Titled Eno Onthara, the film will be produced by Udayachandra Productions. Mahesh will don the director’s robe for this film.

It is worth mentioning here that both the Telugu and Tamil versions of this film were super-duper hits. While Vijay and Jyothika starred in the Tamil version, Pawan Kalyan and Bhoomika played the lead roles in the Telugu version. Both the editions were directed by SJ Suryah.

Priyamani as heroine for Suriya

Priyamani is now getting roles in Bollywood after playing Abhishek’s sister in Mani Ratmnam’s Raavan.

She has now been signed by none other than Ram Gopal Varma to play heroine opposite Suriya in his Hindi-Telugu bilingual Raktha Charithra.

RGV’s film is about the bloody faction fights in Cuddaph region of Andhra, which saw the rise of real life gangsters like Paritala Ravi and Maddelachervu Suri, who later became politicians. Paritala Ravi is being played by Vivek Oberoi and Suri by Suriya, while Priyamani will play the role of his wife Gangula Bhanumati.

It is a major break for Priyamani, the National award winning actress as she is able to do back to back roles with top directors like Mani and Ramu.

Priyamani to wed Tarun?

Just a few hours after Tollywood’s hot babe Priyamani denied rumours on her romantic link with actor Tarun, it is now heard that the actress has finally decided to marry Tarun, her Nava Vasanthan (2007) hero. This development reportedly occured after Tarun’s mother came to know about their affair and agreed for their wedding. Sources say that the marriage is likely to take place after they complete their ongoing assignments. The couple was often spotted getting cozy at many five star restaurants and Tarun recently gifted the actress an expensive luxury car.

Contradicting these reports, Priyamani earlier said: “Tarun and I had great fun during the shooting of Nava Vasantham, but we hardly met with each other after the shooting was completed. Then how could we be in love? Tarun, Ankita and I got along well on the sets. Tarun and I never met again on a personal level." Priyamani had also denied the rumours that Tarun gifted her a Toyoto Innova, saying, "Why do people malign actresses with cheap rumours? I bought the Innova in Hyderabad with my hard-earned money. No hero gifted it to me. It is my personal car."

Mani Ratnam gearing up for his next film

Ace director Mani Ratnam has fully recovered and the shooting of his forthcoming film Ravan (Ashokavanam) is to commence 20th of this month. Starring Vikram, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, Priyamani and others in the lead, the call sheet given by Aishwarya Bachchan for one month got wasted because of the postponement of the shooting. But Ash was promised to give extra days, just to show her regards on Mani Rathnam.

Now the director will be gone for the shoot of Ravan in the dense forest of Kerala next week. A doctor will be also accompanied with the director for few days, as Mani rathnam’s family sources say. Meanwhile, the director is getting ready with his next script for the next project, reportedly titled as Rukhmani. According to the sources, the story is a whole some village subject. AR Rahman has already composed one song for this film.

Priyamani in bikini as Nayan!

National award winner Priyamani is moving towards commercial films and glamour roles. She is presently busy with the Telugu film Dhrona, starring alongside Nitin. Priyamani preferred to act in Malayalam movies

Priyamani was born in Palakkad, brought up in Bangalore, entered films through Bharathi Raja’s Kangalal Kaithi Sei, which did little to improve her career in Tamil films.

Then she went on to make a mark in Malayalam movies with Satyam opposite Prithviraj and moved to Telugu where the Jagapathy Babu starrer Pellaina Kothalo shot her to the top of the Tollywood heap. Then came Paruthiveeran in Tamil, which fetched her a National Award and established her as a true-blue top actress. Except Kannada, Priyamani has made a mark in all the three major South Indian languages.

Recently, in an interview, when asked which language she preferred to act in, she replied Malayalam. Priyamani was also quoted as saying, "Malayalam industry looks at the artistes performance while in Tamil and Telugu, glamour is the criteria. Hence I love acting in Malayalam films. I am also looking for a good opportunity to make my debut in Kannada films. If I get a chance in Kannada films, I will be one of the few heroines who have acted in all the south Indian languages as a full-fledged heroine."

The Kerala based actress Priyamani told that Malayalam films are far superior to movies of any other language in the South. Recently, she won the National Award for her performance in Ameer’s Paruthi Veeran, a Tamil movie.

Now she said, "Though I got best actress award in Tamil, I always consider Malayalam Film Industry is the best in the south. Don’t understand me wrongly. None in Malayalam Industry is compelling artists to act in the scenes. They allow us to perform naturally. But in other languages, directors always teach the artists to act. That is why talented artists are very rare in Tamil and Telugu. In Paruthi Veeran, I didn’t perform on my own. I simply reflected what Ameer taught."

Introduced by Bharathi Raja in Kangalal Kaithu Sei, the actress has to wait for 3 long years to get her first break in Ameer’s Paruthi Veeran. Ameer shows the actress in different angle and after the release of Paruthi Veeran, Priyamani became one of the top class actresses in overnight. Now she is getting nearly 45 lakhs per film in Tamil.

Priyamani with Aishwarya Rai in next movie

Kollywood actress Priyamani, who got rave reviews for her work in Paruthiveeran, will now act in a film directed by Mani Ratnam. Mani Ratnam is directing and producing a film in Tamil which will feature Vikram and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. Prithviraj acts as the villain in this film and Priyamani is slated to pair up with him. This is not the first time they are pairing up though, as they are acting together in Ninaithaley Inikkum.

This film is going to take Priyamani places, since she is working with an assortment of eminent and famous artists, especially Aishwarya Rai, and it is Mani Ratnam’s film. This will surely do a world of good to Priyamani’s image, who recently got noticed in the north after Paruthiveeran.

Mani Ratnam has not yet named his film. The filming is slated to begin in September this year. A.R. Rahman will compose the music for this film and P.C. Sriram will be the cinematographer.

Priyamani shared with SRK?

I am proud to have been a student of their acting school. As I said my list of memorable moments is endless, I would like to mention yet another moment where I shared the stage with Shah Rukh Khan at the International Film Festival in Goa. I was acting like a small kid as I was surrounded by big shots of India, including Shah Rukh Khan. He stood beside me and asked if I knew what we were supposed to do on the stage that moment. I got very excited when he spoke in such a friendly manner not carrying any air of being a superstar. This gesture of his touched me and made it one of the best moments of my life.

One of the best moments came a few days after the release of my film Paruthiveeran. Bharathi Raja sir and Balu Mahendra sir are two most important people in my life and I respect them as my guru. After watching me on screen in Paruthiveeran, Bharathi Raja sir called me up and complimented on my work saying that he could see a growth in me as an actress and I would make it big in Kollywood. These words from him still ring in my mind and overwhelms me to the core.

Another joyous moment followed soon when Balu sir gave me a call. He treats me like his daughter and addresses me as yen ponnu (My daughter).He expressed his joy to see his daughter on screen doing so well. That moment made me speechless as getting compliments from someone who has taught me acting wasn’t a small thing.

Priyamani love to be in half-naked costumes

Actress Priyamani is the only actress in the entire tinsel town who can churn 9 flops after 1 hit movie. This was more evident with her Paruthiveeran a blockbuster movie not because of Priyamani but of Ameer. The actress with a wrong attitude has been roaming around in Kodambakkam.

Priyamani has always thinks that appearing in half-naked costumes would make young teens to fall for her. But it is noteworthy that she hasn’t done anything special with her performance in any of her films.

So, if Priyamani has any ideas of getting prolonged with her career in Kollywood, she has to give some importance to her acting and plead producers to provide costumes that are matching for her.

Priya, you have gone glam post -Paruthiveeran?
It’s not right to compare that film with the others because Paruthiveeran is a once in a lifetime role for me. But I definitely wanted to shed the village girl image as in our industry; you always seem to be typecast. Luckily for me Malaikottai happened and I utilized it. I am happy to be exploring different types of characters in films.

Who are you supporting in the current IPL matches? Any favourites?
I support all the teams and I think it’s really great that we can watch so many international players playing with emerging Indian youth. I think the dark horses are the Rajasthan Royals led by the shrewd Shane Warne. As for favourites I like Adam Gilchrist and Dhoni.

What are your next projects?
I am doing a Malayalam film with Prithviraj as hero directed by Ranjith. I am also doing a Telugu film and then do the remake of Malayalm film Classmates.

What kind of movies do you want to do? How about women-centric films?
I want to be versatile. In India it’s not really possible to have many heroine oriented movies. I feel that this should change and I hope it happens soon.

Vishal has said that he is not in love with you. Please comment
I am not in love with anyone. I also consider myself fortunate not to have fallen in love as yet. I am single and I love being like that. It is fun and I am enjoying life.

What about rumours linking you with a Telugu actor?
If you are referring to Raja, we are just good friends. When I go to Hyderabad we catch up with each other and meet up for dinner when we have the time. There’s nothing more to it. Right now, I am in love with my work (smiles).
