Rajinikanth’s Sashtiabthapoorthi

Superstar Rajinikanth will be celebrating his 61st birthday on December 12, 2010.

His wife Latha and other family members are planning to celebrate it in a big way.

The Sashtiabthapoorthi celebrations and special Poojas are planned to be conducted at the Poes Garden residence of Rajinikanth.

It is a 'Thanks Giving' to God, and many homam's associated with Sashtiabdhapoorthi will be conducted for general well being and good health.

One of the ceremonies is where Rajinikanth and Latha will tie the knot again.

Only close family friends and relatives are likely to take part in this function. The superstar is very keen that it should remain a very private affair.

The buzz is that the Sashtiapthapoorthi poojas will be conducted prior to December 12. The superstar plans to take off to an undisclosed destination to avoid fanfare and media attention on his birthday.

Prabhu Deva keeping mum about Nayanthara

Prabhu Deva’s meeting with the press was a highly anticipated affair and it happened recently in Chennai. Though the director convened the meet for Engeyum Kadhal, a film directed by him, the press were naturally eager to ask questions about Nayanthara.

Brushing them aside, the director only answered queries pertaining to Engeyum Kadhal. He said that most part of the shooting has been completed in France and it will be a romantic flick with the locations adding its touch of romance.

Prabhu, on how he manages to excel in different aspects of cinema such as acting, direction and choreography, said that he never seeks anything but take things as it comes.

Manmadhan Ambu at a new record price!

Bharat Creation has acquired the USA and Canada distribution rights of Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan’s forthcoming Christmas release Manmadhan Ambu, at a new record price.

The film has Kamal Haasan, Madhavan, Trisha, Sangeetha and is directed by KS Ravikumar.

US and Canada is supposed to be Kamal's citadel. Bharat Creations has paid a record Rs 3 Crore for the US & Canada rights.

This price is almost double that was paid for Kamal's last hit Dasavatharam for the same territory.

Guna, a director of Bharat Creations said: "We are very happy to announce that we have acquired distribution rights of Kamal Haasan's Manmadhan Ambu for USA & Canada at a new record price.   This movie has very high expectations among audiences here and with Kamal sir's huge fan base is going to be a guaranteed winning combination."

Kavalan’s problem stills continues….

An out of the court settlement has not yet been arrived over the dispute on 'Kavalan' as announced, following which the stay issued last week on the film's release continues.

This has been confirmed by J K Saravanan of Tantra, who has acquired the foreign distribution rights of the Vijay-starrer movie and later approached the court seeking a stay,

"It is true that we informed the court that we would arrive at a settlement at the earliest. But a compromise solution has not been worked out yet between us (Saravanan, producer Romesh Babu and director Shakthi Chidambaram, who acquired the movie's release rights)," he says.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors’ Association reportedly decided on Wednesday not to screen any of Vijay’s films across the State until the actor compensates for the losses his earlier movies incurred.

A decision in this connection was taken during an executive committee meeting of the association in Coimbatore, it is said.

But all these things have not dampened the spirit of those involved in the making of the film. "It is a soft, gripping script and will sure work big time with the audience," a unit source says.

Arvind Swamy Divorce his wife Gayathri

Roja and Bombay  fame Aravind Swamy and his wife of 16 years, Gayathri Ramamurthy had parted a few months back.

Now their divorce is coming through without any acrimonious statements or mud slinging!

The couple has agreed to the exhaustive set of terms and conditions covering maintenance, custody of children and visiting rights.

The divorce is as per mutual consent and Aravind Swamy will pay a one-time settlement payment of Rs 75 lakhs and a monthly one-time payment of Rs 1 lakh towards maintenance.

It comes with a rider that it will be paid as long as Gayathri does not remarry, and there will be no enhancement of the amount under any circumstances.

The couple who have two children have now expressly agreed to leave the custody of the children with Aravind Swamy, who shall be responsible for their upbringingand education.

Gayathri will have custody rights every Saturday and she will be allowed to spend seven days with the children during their summer holidays.

Vanitha complaint Arun Vijay

The Nungambakkam police have registered a case against Arun Vijay and three others, based on a complaint filed by his half sister Vanitha Vijayakumar.

Vanitha had complained to the city police commissioner that on the day of her husband's arrest, three persons had barged into her house around 2AM in the night and tried to assault her.

Vanitha said one of the gang members forced her to speak to Arun Vijay who threatened to kill her, if she lodged a complaint against the family.

The family dispute within the Vijayakumar family is getting from bad to worse. The latest is Vanitha threatening to spill family secrets with an autobiographical book that she plans to write.
